After the runaway success of last year’s Walk on High, the Festival scoots around the corner to Call on O’Connell (Street) for 90 minutes
of literary mayhem orchestrated by more than 30 writers and performers: there’s restyled news delivered
from barbershop stools; under the table tales from the Wine Chamber; racy readings with chocolate, past writers remembered, and reports from abroad besides. Webb, Never Mind the Buzzcocks and Cold Feet, Robert Webb’s screen achievements as a creator, writer and actor have seen him become one of the most recognisable and best-loved faces in British comedy. HowNotToBeaBoyistheactorand author’s frank memoir, about a life shadowed by his tempestuous father and the early death of his mother. It’s also a refreshing rumination on masculinity. In this wide-ranging conversation with Noelle McCarthy he talks about his life and work, and the way in which concepts of family and fatherhood continue to evolve. ON SONG: LAWRENCE ARABIA
FRIDAY MAY 18 – 7.00-8.00PM HEARTLAND FESTIVAL ROOM, AOTEA SQUARE
Lawrence Arabia (aka James Milne), who describes his work as “old- fashioned music about contemporary life” joins Tama Waipara in the Heartland Festival Room for an hour of chat and music. Lawrence, who won an APRA Silver Scroll for his song Apple Pie Bed, has released several solo albums including Lawrence Arabia, Chant Darling and Absolute Truth, collaborated with Connan Mockasin, Bic Runga, Neil Finn and The Phoenix Foundation, written songs for Taika Waititi and Jemaine Clement’s  lm What We Do In The Shadows, and co-created and scored the comedy podcast The Mysterious Secrets Of Uncle Bertie’s Botanarium. In 2018 he will embark on his Lawrence Arabia 2018 Singles Club Project, releasing one single every month.
Venue and bar open from 6pm; stay on afterwards and enjoy the atmosphere and the free session that follows. Eligible for concession pass selection.
