The moving tribute and 2009 television documentary Tell Them Anything You Want: A Portrait of Maurice Sendak was directed by Spike Jonze and Lance Bangs, and combines photos, illustrations and interviews to give an intimate glimpse into the beloved children’s author. Friends and colleagues, including James Gandol ni, Meryl Streep, Catherine Keeter and Tony Kushner, also appear. (Runtime 39 mins.) Supported by Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Ta-maki.

Professor David Christian can navigate our complex 13.7 billion year history in just under 18 minutes. Since the 1980s, the US- born, Australian-based scholar of Russian history has promulgated
the idea of Big History, a meta- discipline which takes a wide-angle, multidisciplinary approach to history. It has been championed by philanthropist Bill Gates among others, and is now being taught in schools. Christian’s new book Origin Story: A Big History of Everything acts as a starting point for understanding the world from go to whoa. He sets out his all-encompassing approach in conversation with Geraint Martin. Supported by Platinum Patrons Frances & Bill Bell.
                             In Ockham New Zealand Book Awards longlisted Phoney Wars: New Zealand Society in the Second World War, Stevan Eldred-Grigg argues that NZ’s involvement in World War II was a mistake. He sets out his thesis.
