23. Greg McGee and Sam Mahon

Sam Mahon and Greg McGee are prominent New Zealanders with wide fields of interest and expertise. Sam paints, sculpts in bronze, builds musical instruments and writes books. He follows The Year of the Horse (2002) and The Water Thieves (2006) with a memoir My Father’s Shadow – A Portrait of Justice Peter Mahon. Playwright and television writer, ex-Junior All Black and lawyer Greg McGee rose to fame in the early 1980s with his play Foreskin’s Lament. In the late eighties he wrote the prize-winning docu-drama Erebus: The Aftermath which concentrated on Justice Mahon’s role as Royal Commissioner into the Mt Erebus disaster. In 2008 he published his very entertaining Tall Tales (Some True): Memoirs of an Unlikely Writer.
