Frances Walsh began her writing career freelancing for Fashion Quarterly, the New Zealand Listener and Metro magazines before joining the staff of Metro where she worked as an award-winning journalist, and arts and books editor until 2008.

She currently works as a trade unionist and lives in Auckland.
