Sandy Callister

Dr. Sandy Callister is the author of The Face Of War: New Zealand's Great War Photograph (AUP 2008). In this book Sandy examines the medical archives of the New Zealand soldiers who underwent reconstructive plastic surgery for extensive facial injuries. These archives enclose a world of bodily trauma and wartime horror. She is currently a Stout Research Centre Fellow researching 19th-century photography and Victorian New Zealand feminine culture for a forthcoming exhibition and book.
