Ben Goldacre session replaced with Issues of Science with Sir Peter Gluckman

The Auckland Writers & Readers Festival regrets to advise that, due to a family illness, Ben Goldacre is unable to travel to New Zealand in May. 

The Festival has been unable to secure a revised format with Ben Goldacre.  This session will instead feature Chief Science Advisor to the Prime Minister and Distinguished Professor Sir Peter Gluckman, who will discuss science communication, public-private health partnerships and other current issues with Sean Plunket.   Tickets to this session are offered on a 2 for 1 basis.  Current ticket holders for Ben Goldacre should contact  The Edge Ticketing service on 0800 289 842 to arrange an exchange for two tickets to Issues of Science with Sir Peter Gluckman OR an exchange for one ticket to an alternate standard Festival session OR a ticket refund if applicable under the terms of the original purchase.

In his role as New Zealand’s first Chief Science Advisor to the Prime Minister, Distinguished Professor Sir Peter Gluckman is charged with providing advice on science and science policy matters and promoting the public understanding of, and engagement with, science.  In a wide-ranging conversation with broadcaster Sean Plunket, taking as its starting point Ben Goldacre’s book Bad Science, Professor Gluckman will discuss the successes and failures of current science communication in New Zealand, as well as broader issues such as public-private partnerships.  The session will conclude with the announcement of the 2013 Royal Society of New Zealand Science Book Prize.  Supported by the Royal Society of New Zealand.
