2020 Programme Preview Tour

Auckland Writers Festival takes a road trip across Aotearoa. Join Festival Director Anne O'Brien for a preview of the Auckland Writers Festival programme and which books should be on your 2020 reading list.

The highly-anticipated programme for the 20th Auckland Writers Festival will be revealed on Wednesday 11 March. Forty-one international writers; over 220 local writers, illustrators, poets, personalities and playwrights; over 200 events; and many, many wonderful books.

With the full programme under her arm, long-time Festival Director Anne O’Brien will then take the show on the road, promoting the event - one of the most popular writers festivals on the planet and most highly-attended in Australasia - to book lovers at bookshops and libraries across the country.

“This Festival is not just for Auckland, it’s for all of us. Our event is a chance to come face-to-face with some of the world’s best writers and thinkers and we welcome people from all over the country to do that.

“Every year, Aucklanders and visitors to the city immerse themselves in literature with such insatiable appetite for our week-long degustation. It’s what writers festivals are all about and our 20th is a birthday party no one will want to miss,” O’Brien says.

The inaugural Auckland Writers Festival roadshow will stop off in Queenstown, Christchurch, Nelson, Wellington, Hawkes Bay, Palmerston North, Hamilton, Tauranga and New Plymouth. Refreshments will be provided and at each event one lucky winner will receive a win a 10-ticket concession pass.
