AT HOME AND ABROAD: KIRSTY GUNN

The NZ-born, UK-based Kirsty Gunn’s latest novel Caroline’s Bikini isa portrait of courtly love, in which, according to the Financial Times, the author’s “serious playfulness will make you think again about every convention of fiction we lazily take for granted.” Gunn has published short stories and novels including Rain, made into a movie of the same name, The Keepsake, Featherstone, NZ Post Book Award Book of the Year The Big Music and Sundial Scottish Arts Council Book of the Year The Boy and the Sea. She shows a keen interest in family dynamics, as well as an awareness of landscape and its symbolic potential. Gunn joins Michael Williams for a discussion of her writing and preoccupations.
