In the early 1990s the New Zealand Film Archive asked esteemed historian Christopher Pugsley to catalogue New Zealand’s earliest film. Pugsley’s book The Camera in the Crowd: Filming New Zealand in Peace and War 1895-1920 is the result of that treasure hunt and sets the scene for this illustrated talk complete with archival clips and stills documenting our early love affair with cinematography.
