CHANGE AGENT: KWAME ALEXANDER
Poetry and literature shift the world on its axis, says educator, poet and frequent New York Times bestselling children’s author Kwame Alexander. Through picture books such as the Caldecott medal-winning The Undefeated, the Newberry medal-winning novel The Crossover, and the non-fiction The Playbook: 52 Rules to Aim, Shoot, and Score in this Game Called Life, Alexander works to empower children. He is the force behind the #AllBooksForAllKids initiative agitating for diversity in school library holdings, co-founded a Ghanaian literacy programme, and is the founding editor of the imprint VERSIFY that aims to “change the world one word at a time”. The focussed Alexander talks to Catriona Ferguson.
