Event 56

The Observer has called John Boyne’s riot of a novel A Ladder to the Sky “a deliciously dark tale of ambition, seduction and literary theft.” Boyne has said it has its partial genesis in an“unhealthy” crush on a fellow writer. It’s the latest from the Irishman who has snared readers around the world with 11 novels (including The Heart’s Invisible Furies, a 70-year odyssey which also tackles Irish bigotry and prejudice) and six books for younger readers, the hit The Boy In The Striped Pyjamas being one, and an April-released YA book on transgender My Brother’s Name is Jessica, another. He returns to Auckland to talk about his latest literary pursuits with Sasha de Buyl.

In association with Dunedin Writers & Readers Festival with the support of Culture Ireland.

Please note this event had now moved to the ASB Theatre, Aotea Centre, not the Hunua Room as originally advertised.
