Event 77 - CANCELLED

Feats of imagination and the creation of epic worlds mark the new novels of two of NZ’s most accomplished writers, Ockham NZ Book Awards longlister Elizabeth Knox’s The Absolute Book is described as “a magical invitation back to a childlike imaginative state” by the Listener, ping-ponging between real and fantasy worlds, and across England, NZ and the train stations of Purgatory. Lawrence Patchett’s novel The Burning River is located in futuristic Aotearoa, where plastic is mined, and settlements are fenced. Arts Foundation laureate Knox, author of the awardwinning Vintner’s Luck, and Patchett, winner of the NZSA Hubert Church Best First Book Award for Fiction for I Got His Blood on Me: Frontier Tales, contemplate the creation of immersive worlds that challenge our current reality. Chaired by Simon Wilson.
