NIGHT THOUGHTS: WALLACE SHAWN
Writer, thinker, actor and conversationalist Wallace Shawn’s plays include Aunt Dan and Lemon (a cautionary tale about fascism), The Fever, The Designated Mourner, and Evening at the Talk House. He is also an accomplished essayist– praised by Toni Morrison, Tony Kushner, Michael Moore and David Hare among others – for his explorations of the implications of living a privileged life in a sometimes desperate and exploitative world in the books Essays and Night Thoughts. Shawn co-wrote and acted in Louis Malle’s My Dinner With Andre (in which he played a version of himself), and the odds are that you may also recognise him from his acting roles in Manhattan, Toy Story (the excitable Rex), The Princess Bride and Clueless. The highly engaged New Yorker talks to Gemma Gracewood.
