WORKSHOP: TISHANI DOSHI HOW TO WRITE A LOVE POEM
The love poems of Kalidasa, Sappho and Shakespeare have inspired many a squeamish verse. But in this workshop, led by Tishani Doshi, “roses are red” will be dispensed with as the language of praise is examined and then subverted. Inspired by Pablo Neruda’s odes to ordinary things – salt, socks, tomatoes – you’ll heap anti-praise on a person or object using close observation, ardent feeling, surprising syntax and experimental verve, to prove love is love even when it’s hate. Bring your purple heart.
