Carnegie Medal-winning children’s and YA author Sally Gardner writes adult fiction under the nom de plume Wray Delaney. An Almond for a Parrot is a sexual odyssey set in 18th-century London, “an irresistible erotic fairy tale” with “shades of Sarah Waters and the Brothers Grimm”, according to The Guardian. Wray’s follow-up The Beauty of the Wolf – a riff on Beauty and the Beast, in which the beast is a woman – was released early in 2019. Gardner speaks with Stephanie Johnson on her adult work and what connects her seemingly diverse writing genres.
