Jean-Christophe Rufin is a doctor, historian, writer, and former French ambassador in Senegal. He has been involved with Medicins Sans Frontiers and has led missions in Eritrea, Ethiopia, Afghanistan, Philippines, Sudan, Rwanda and the Balkans. Rufin’s fiction includes the Prix Goncourt winning The Abyssinian (1997) and Brazil Red (2001), and The Red Collar (2015), a novel about war. His new book is The Santiago Pilgrimage: Walking theImmortal Way (2016).
