We’re thrilled to share some exciting news!
Auckland Writers Festival Waituhi o Tāmaki has been named as one of 22 acts and events to receive funding through either MBIE’s Events Boost Fund or Events Attraction Package. This is a fantastic recognition of our role as a cornerstone of Auckland’s cultural scene.
Every May, the Festival brings together thousands of readers and writers for an unforgettable celebration of books, ideas, and creativity. As one of the best-attended literary festivals in the Southern Hemisphere, we’ve hosted major international and local authors, including Booker and Pulitzer Prize winners, and created a space for diverse voices and vibrant conversations.
This support helps us continue to deliver a world-class event that not only inspires audiences but also contributes to Auckland’s economy and cultural vitality. We’re proud to be part of a line-up that reflects the diversity and energy of Aotearoa’s events scene, alongside other incredible New Zealand arts, sporting, music and cultural events.
Tourism and Hospitality Minister Louise Upston announced the successful bids in Christchurch, saying:
“Today’s acts and events are just the start, offering something for hundreds of thousands of fans and visitors, along with a big boost to New Zealand’s economy.”
A huge thank you to our incredible writers, publishers and partners who help bring the Festival to life every year. We can’t wait to welcome you to AWF26: mark your calendars for The First Chapter 3-5 March, STREETSIDE Friday 8 May and join us in Festival week 12-17 May for an inspiring celebration of literature and ideas.
