He Puāwai: A Natural History of New Zealand Flowers

Aotearoa New Zealand has at least 2200 native species of flowering plants that have evolved in our unique conditions, and the vast majority of them grow nowhere else on earth.

In his Ockham NZ Book Awards shortlisted He Puāwai, internationally renowned plant diversity expert and emeritus professor of botany Philip Garnock-Jones has selected 100 native species that represent the full range of the country’s flowers: from familiar iconic flowers of kōwhai, mānuka and pōhutukawa to oddities such as the water-pollinated flowers of eelgrass, bat-pollinated blossoms of kiekie, and the world’s smallest flowers, Wolffia.

Whether you’re an avid gardener or forager, or merely curious about the nature around you, don’t miss this beautifully illustrated guide through some of our country’s smallest taonga.
