Poetry and the News: James Norcliffe, Anne Kennedy, Michele Leggott

‘It is difficult to get the news from poems’, wrote William Carlos Williams, ‘yet men die miserably every day for lack of what is found there.’ The recipient of the 2022 Prime Minister’s Award for Literary Achievement in Poetry, James Norcliffe, has just released his 11th collection Letter to ‘Oumuamua. He speaks with the 2021 recipient of the same award, the much-loved poet Anne Kennedy, whose latest collection is The Sea Walks into a Wall. They are joined by former Poet Laureate Michele Leggott, who delivers her new collection, Face to the Sky, on love and loss and still being here. Together they will read from their work, and provide a window on what poems can and can’t do in the age of connectivity.
