Young, Queer and Brown: Awa Puna, Manaia Tuwhare-Hoani, Ruby Solly, Matariki Bennett
Young, Māori, LGBTQ+ women celebrate the uniqueness, originality and bravery of their work. Award-winning filmmaker and actress Awa Puna (Ngāti Kahungunu ki Wairoa); founding member of awardwinning slam poetry group Ngā Hine Pūkōrero Manaia Tuwhare-Hoani (Ngāpuhi, Ngāti Tautahi ki Kaikohe & Te Popoto ki Utakura, Ngāti Wai Mai Mōkau/ Whangaruru); and Poet and Taonga Puoro artist Ruby Solly (Kāi Tahu, Waitaha, Kāti Māmoe) will explore with award winning poet and filmmaker Matariki Bennett (Ngāti Pikiao, Ngāti Whakaue) if and how their gender and sexuality and whakapapa informs their creativity; how each strand of who they are strengthens or comes into conflict with the other strands; and the things they are driven to talk about in what they create. Each artist will show or read or perform one of their works. A chance to hear exciting new voices making exciting new works.
