Novelist and playwright Damon Galgut was awarded the 2021 Booker Prize for his novel The Promise. His 2003 novel The Good Doctor won the Commonwealth Writers Prize (Africa) and was shortlisted for the Man Booker Prize, as was his 2010 novel In a Strange Room.
