Dominic Hoey is a poet, author, and playwright based in Auckland, New Zealand. His novels Iceland and Poor People With Money were bestsellers, with Iceland longlisted for the 2018 Ockham Book Award. He has released four poetry collections, including The Dead Are Always Laughing at Us, and won the 2021 Sunday Star-Times Short Story Competition.

He co-founded Dead Bird Books, publishing marginalised writers, and founded Learn to Write Good, teaching creative writing to those without formal education.

Dominic has written and performed two acclaimed solo shows and has held international writing residencies. A former rapper and slam-poetry champion, he has performed worldwide. His third novel, 1985, is set for release by Penguin in May 2025.
