Fiona Kidman

Fiona Kidman

Fiona Kidman has written about 35 books. She is a fiction writer, memoirist and poet, and has also written for radio and the screen. Her novels have won numerous awards and are published internationally. This Mortal Boy won the Jann Medlicott Ockham New Zealand Book Award for Fiction in 2019, and previously The Book of Secrets won the New Zealand Book Award category. The Trouble with Fire was shortlisted for the Frank O'Connor Short Story Prize in Ireland. In 2024 Fiona collaborated with director Joshua Prendeville on a biographical film of her life called The House Within. This has been shown at the New Zealand International Film Festival and the Antipodes Film Festival in France. Her honours include the DCNZM, an OBE, and the French Legion of Honour (La Legion d'Honneur). In 2017, she was the Honoured New Zealand Writer at the Auckland Writers Festival Waituhi o Tāmaki.
