Hebe Kearney

Hebe Kearney

Hebe Kearney is a queer, pākehā poet from Ōtautahi who now calls Tāmaki Makaurau home. They run Blackout Poetry Aotearoa, through which they promote ‘found poetry’ by offering workshops, competitions, zines, exhibitions, and collaborations. They believe strongly in community, and the transformative power of poetry, even for people that don’t consider themselves ‘poets’. They have also always written ‘conventional’ poetry, enjoying using their own experiences alongside their BA (Hons) in History/Classics to fool around in the past for poetry’s sake. This poetry has been published in places like: bad apple, Circular, Mayhem, Mote, Overcom, Poetry Aotearoa Yearbooks, Starling, Sweet Mammalian, Symposia, takahē, Tarot, The Spinoff, and Turbine. As well as performed live by them, at events related to such fabulous endeavours as: bad apple, Poetry Live, SameSame But Different, Starling, Verb, Yellow Lamp, Zinefest. You can follow their antics on Instagram @he__be, and @blackoutpoetryaotearoa.
