Kingsley Spargo

Kingsley Spargo

Kingsley Spargo is a sound designer, multi instrumentalist, composer and academic whose work spans theatre, film, improvisation, and contemporary performance. A professional teaching fellow and PhD candidate at the University of Auckland, his research explores creative collaboration, while his artistic practice blends vocals, brass, guitar, taonga pūoro inspired soundscapes and experimental textures. Spargo has collaborated widely with leading New Zealand artists, but his enduring creative partnership with distinguished writer Witi Ihimaera has become a defining thread of his work. Their collaborations include performances at major festivals and significant theatrical works, most recently the 2025 staging of Tiri: Te Araroa Woman Far Walking, where Spargo’s composition and sound design deepened the emotional and cultural resonance of the production.
