Miriama Kamo (Ngāi Tahu/Ngāti Mutunga) is an award winning journalist, broadcaster, writer, MC and speaker, and environmental advocate.
As Patron/Te Koruru of the NZer of the Year Awards, Miriama has been establishing an alumni network, a partnership model honouring te Tiriti, and a pastoral care model for winners.
Miriama is an ambassador for Pillars, Charity Foundations, Breast Cancer NZ, and Endometriosis NZ.
Miriama co-founded a charity, Kotahi Rau Pukapuka (KRP), which was launched by then Prime Minister, the Rt Hon. Jacinda Ardern, in October 2019. It is publishing 100 books in te reo.
Miriama published her first book The Stolen Stars of Matariki in 2018. Her 6th and 7th children’s books will be published in 2025.
A passionate advocate for the environment, Miriama spends much of her time promoting the Zerowaste movement, encouraging others to reduce waste and engage with environmental issues.
