Shilo Kino

Shilo Kino is an award-winning writer and journalist of Ngāpuhi, Ngāti Maniapoto, and Ngāti Te Ata descent. She is the author of All That We Know, a bestseller exploring the experience of reclaiming culture and social media activism as a young wahine Māori, and The Pōrangi Boy, a historical novel based on the true story of a prison built on sacred land in Ngāwha, now part of the English curriculum in schools nationwide. Shilo’s writing often explores themes of identity, cultural reclamation, and intergenerational legacy. She has contributed to major outlets including Newsroom, The Guardian, and TVNZ Marae. A lover of languages, Shilo is passionate about te reo Māori, Mandarin, and cultural storytelling.
