Shilo Kino is an author from Ngāpuhi, Ngāti Maniapoto and Ngāti Te Ata. Her debut novel, The Pōrangi Boy, won the Young Adult Fiction Award at the 2021 New Zealand Book Awards. In 2024 she released her first adult fiction novel, All That We Know which deals with activism, social media, and colonisation. All That We Know debuted at number one on the NZ booksellers chart for fiction. Shilo was previously a TV journalist for Marae and has written for a number of publications such as Newsroom, NZ Herald, The Spinoff, The Guardian and North and South. Shilo was the emerging Māori residency for Michael King in 2021, she co-hosted a podcast called Back to Kura with Radio host Astley Nathan, documenting the highs and lows of learning te reo Māori. Shilo is currently working on a thesis at Waipapa Taumata Rau or the University of Auckland.
