Tim Worrall

Tim Worrall

Tim Worrall (Ngāi Tūhoe) holds a BFA from Elam, Auckland University and an MA from IIML, Victoria University of Wellington. He has worked as an artist, designer, consultant, tohunga tā moko, screenwriter and director.

His screen credits include: Pukana; Shortland Street; Jackson's Wharf; Whale Rider; Radiradirah; Kairakau; Only in Aotearoa; This is Piki; and Fresh. He is also a foundation member of the Māori collective Steambox Films and has made the short films: The Road to Whakarae; Tits on a Bull; Meke; Koutuku Rerenga Rua; and Māori Time.

More recently he has been: writer of the feature film Ka Whawhai Tonu; co-lead writer and lead director for the drama series Head High; co-writer, co-director for anthology feature We Are Still Here; storyliner and director on action-drama series Vegas; writer and director of Tappy for the supernatural series Beyond the Veil.

Tim was also selected as a Fellow of the Sundance Native Lab for 2022. He is currently: showrunning the thriller series Rapunga; writing the feature film Sunflower with Cliff Curtis; and has a number of other projects in early development.

Despite growing up on Auckland’s North Shore, Tim has been an active member on his Tūhoe marae, Tauanui, including a stint as chairman. He currently lives in Rotorua with his wife Taria Tahana, and their two sons - Tiki and Tanu.
