Event 122
Frontlines and Headlines: The Life of a Foreign Correspondent
They’re the faces, voices and wordsmiths who bring us frontline news from around the world.
But what are the realities of life as a foreign correspondent? Its highs, lows, challenges, joys? What drives someone towards a career that involves so much danger, personal sacrifice and often years away from home?
Lifting the lid on one of the most visible yet scarcely understood roles in journalism are the BBC’s Chief International Correspondent Lyse Doucet (The Finest Hotel in Kabul: A People’s History of Afghanistan); Barbara Dreaver (Be Brave) who has covered the Pacific for over 30 years and Charlotte Glennie (Every Second Counts), TVNZ’s first Asia correspondent who has spent over two decades telling our region’s stories for newsrooms and not-for-profits.
Chaired by Susie Ferguson.
