Event 12
Daniel Hahn: An Introduction to Translation
Daniel Hahn is one of the UK’s most acclaimed literary translators, known for his translations from Portuguese, Spanish and French and his work with the Translators Association, the Society of Authors and English PEN.
In this illuminating and beginner-friendly masterclass, he’ll reveal how a piece of fiction moves between languages in the hands of a literary translator.
Together you’ll work through small exercises accompanied by guided discussion of the choices, challenges, quirks and joys that translators encounter when working on a text, and have a go at some small bits of translation of your own.
Suitable for everyone, regardless of whether you know another language. Only curiosity (and tolerance for some language geekery) is required.
