Poetry is made from the “things” of the world: a doorway, a path, a person, a car, a tree, a spider, a stone. Poets need to be awake in the world, to notice what is around them, and invite the world onto the page, because it is from these concrete physical details that meaning, mysteries and transformations can happen.
