Writing Poetry as a Way of Paying Attention to the World

Poetry is made from the “things” of the world: a doorway, a path, a person, a car, a tree, a spider, a stone. Poets need to be awake in the world, to notice what is around them, and invite the world onto the page, because it is from these concrete physical details that meaning, mysteries and transformations can happen.

Join Poetry New Zealand Award- winner and teacher Lynn Davidson as she guides you through a range of example poems that use ’ordinary’ details to explore big concepts, layer meaning and create certain feelings or atmospheres, and offers some exercises to help you put these ideas into practice in your own work.
