Lucy O'Hagan

Lucy O'Hagan

Lucy O’Hagan is a rata hauora/GP, writer, performer, medical educator and mentor. She has worked in a variety of contexts: for kaupapa Māori clinics, in a rural tourist town and in a free GP service at a needle exchange. She teaches consultation skills to GP trainees. Lucy has studied the social science of medicine, narrative practice and kaitiakitanga, and she writes a column for New Zealand Doctor. Her 2025 book Everything but the Medicine. A Doctor’s Tale published by Massey Press, was described as ‘stunning’ by Glenn Colquhoun. It explores the complex human stories heard in GP consultations and asks how doctors need to be, and to think, in order to become story doctors. Lucy reveals profound experiences from her own life including navigating her career, beyond burnout.
