Writer and historian Mark Derby is the author of several social histories including the Waihi miners’ strike and New Zealanders in the Spanish Civil War. He wrote for online encyclopaedia Te Ara for six years and has recently published Rock College: An Unofficial History of Mount Eden Prison.
