Lisa Uperesa
Lisa Uperesa is Associate Professor and Head of Department in Pacific Studies and Co-Head of School for Te Wānanga o Waipapa | School of Māori Studiesand Pacific Studies at the University of Auckland. She serves on the editorial board for the ANU Press Anthropology in Pacific and Asian Studies series, as the Honorary Secretary of the Council of the Polynesian Society, and is a former Chair of the Association for Social Anthropology in Oceania. Lisa works with Pacific communities to understand how and why we move, what factors shape our pathways, and what mobility means for our identities, families, cultures, and futures. Her award-winning book, Gridiron Capital: How American Football Became a Samoan Game (Duke University Press, 2022), focused on the rise of American football in Samoan communities and how we navigate sport as both labour and tautua (service).
