Dubbed Zimbabwe’s answer to Zadie Smith, writer and lawyer Petina Gappah’s short fiction collection An Elegy for Easterly won the Guardian Best First Book Award in 2009 and has been followed by her debut novel The Book of Memory (2015). Gappah currently lives in Geneva, where she provides legal aid on international trade law to developing countries.
